Where your captain will take you

The Sea of Cortez comes in two formats and no more: five hours as far as Balandra, or eight to cross to Espíritu Santo Island. The island doesn't fit in the short trip.

  • Boarding Marina Palmira · Bahía Pichilingue
  • Duration 5 h or 8 h

The short trip · 5 hours

  1. Boarding

    Marina Palmira · Bahía Pichilingue

This is where it starts. Captain and deckhand welcome you aboard, and fuel is already included. Your advisor confirms the exact dock before your day out.

    • Captain and deckhand
    • Life jackets aboard
  2. Islet

    San Rafaelito

An islet with its white lighthouse on top and a sea lion colony around it. You anchor off to one side; whether you can get in the water there depends on the season and the day's permit.

    • Sea lions
    • Lighthouse
    • Snorkeling
    About San Rafaelito
  3. Anchorage

    Playa Balandra

The mushroom rock and a cove where the water stays waist-deep for a long way out. It's the long stop on the five-hour trip.

    • Waist-deep water
    • The mushroom rock
    • Swimming
    About Playa Balandra

With 8 hours: Espíritu Santo Island

  1. The visit

    Espíritu Santo Island

Red cliffs dropping sheer into turquoise water, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Crossing over here is what separates the full day from the short trip.

    • Cliffs
    • Anchorage
    About Espíritu Santo Island
  2. Anchorage

    The south of the island

The sheltered coves at the southern tip, out of the wind. This is where the afternoon goes before heading back.

    • Sheltered
    • Swimming
    • Snorkeling
  3. End of the trip

    Back to the dock

And from there back to the dock you left from. The crew ties up and you step off with the whole day behind you.

    • Same dock
    • End of the day

Your captain adjusts the route to the sea, the wind and the hours you booked. The order can change on the day itself — your group's safety comes first.
